Yuzu. In Person.
Author’s Note: This post was written about the 2019 Autumn Classic in Toronto. FanyuFanme will continue to count the days until seeing Yuzu in person again…for as high as we have to count.
So what was it like to see Yuzu in person?
You know. (Wouldn’t you be irritated if I stopped there?)
But how do you put it into words?
I work in words. I create in words. Thanks to Yuzu, I’ve even broadened my language in 日本語の言葉 [Japanese words]. I can artistically craft my thoughts, impressions and feelings about Yuzu as though they are the Otonal step sequence. But when I try to write about ACTUALLY SEEING Yuzu. In person. And what that was like…I starfish across my laptop keys.
You can try throwing words out there…
White. 白
Black. 黒
Smooth. Fast. Ethereal. Perfect perfect perfect perfect PERFECT 完璧–
But the words don’t land.
I saw Yuzu IN PERSON 688 days ago. And for 688 days, I have been wordless about that moment.
You tell yourself…
He can’t skate that fast. He does.
He can’t be that handsome. He is.
He can’t land that softly. He does.
He can’t be that amazing. He is.
He can’t move that beautifully. He does.
He can’t really be Yuzuru Hanyu. He IS.
He can’t…
The only thing he can’t be is forgotten.
The only thing you can’t do is take your eyes off of him.
And the only thing I can’t do is…describe it.
